A new project spearheaded by interior Health known as MyHealth Portal gives patients the opportunity to save time and become more informed by viewing important health information right from their computer or smartphone.
Interior Health has been promoting the new project at Kelowna General Hospital (KGH) and currently multiple stations are set up in the Centennial building until February 24th where people can sign up.
The MLA for Kelowna - Lake Country, Norm Letnick, and MLA for Kelowna - Mission, Steve Thomson, both took the time on Friday to visit KGH and sign up for MyHealth Portal.
As well, David Sookaveiff, Director of Public Health and Primary Care Systems for Interior Health, was present to answer questions regarding the portal.
According to Sookaveiff, the portal can provide patients with an array of important health information.
“This is a portal that is a secure website for patients to log in and get access to their personal health record,” said Sookaveiff. “At this point there is lab results, diagnostic imaging reports, and some scheduling… you can see your appointment if you’ve been scheduled into one of our diagnostic imaging clinics or chronic disease clinics.”
Traditionally, patients would have to go to their family physician to obtain a copy of test results or a hospital’s health records department. But according to Sookaveiff, this project will allow patients to check up on important information right from their computer or smartphone and save a lot of time in the process.
“It will save a considerable amount of time,” began Sookaveiff. “We're also finding... that some of the physicians are saying that their patients are coming in better informed. They have better questions, they are a little more engaged in their health care because they have had more time to look at their information.”
As well, Sookaveiff is confident that this is just the beginning for MyHealth Portal.
“We’ve got some basic content to help us start, but as we continue to evolve we’ll add more information and more clinics will be registered under it.”
After February 24th, those interested can go about registering through a remote enrolment process. Essentially, what this entails is for people to visit the main registration branch of their local hospital, provide their email address and identification, and formally request to sign up for the MyHealh Portal.
