(UPDATE: Nov. 2 @ 12:30 pm): The RCMP has provided an update about three bodies found on Vancouver Island on Sunday afternoon.
Oceanside Mounties said they were first called at about 2 pm when a motorcyclist on Melrose Forest Service Road said he had found an unresponsive man.
When police and medics arrived, they found the man and confirmed he was dead.
Close by, they found a burned-out travel trailer with two other dead people inside.
A man who had been shot – though still alive – was found in another trailer at the scene.
He was air-lifted to hospital and is now in a stabled condition, police said.
"As this investigation is in its infancy, there are many questions that remain unanswered," Cpl. Jesse Foreman of the Oceanside RCMP said.
"Initial findings lead investigators to believe that this in an isolated incident between parties well known to one another. We do not believe there is any on-going risk to the public."
BC RCMP Major Crime Unit Operations Officer Supt. Sanjaya Wijayakoon added that investigators are working hard to uncover more information.
The BC Coroners Service is also conducting its own investigation.
The names of the three people found dead will not be released "at this time," police said.
(Original story: Nov. 2 @ 10:40 am): The BC Coroners Service is investigating the discovery of three bodies in a remote area west of Parksville on Vancouver Island.
The service says in a statement the bodies were found Sunday in an area known as Whiskey Creek, near the community of Coombs.
The RCMP in Parksville did not immediately comment on the discovery of the bodies.
The Coroners Service says it is early in the investigation and it cannot provide further details at this time.
