A magnitude 5.4 earthquake struck off the coast of Vancouver Island this morning near Port Hardy.

According to data from USGS, the quake occurred 210 km south west of Port Hardy at about 8:20 a.m. The earthquake had a shallow depth of 10 km.

The US Tsunami Warning System has stated that there’s no warning, advisory, watch, or threat, currently in place.

There has been a rash of earthquakes in the region, including a trio of powerful events off the coast this past October. The first had a magnitude of 6.6, followed by a second of 6.8, then a 6.5 magnitude quake.

Despite the seismic events being powerful, they occurred faraway enough from land that they caused little concern.
