Mounties have arrested and charged five men in connection to the 2018 homicide of Troy Gold in an investigation led by the Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit (SCU.)
Gold was reported missing to RCMP On Oct. 3, 2018. His remains were discovered in the Lac Du Bois area by the RCMP Southeast District Tactical Team on Oct. 30, 2018.
Through the continuous investigation, diligence and determination of investigators, the five suspects were identified and on Oct.18, 2019 the British Columbia Prosecution Service approved the second-degree murder charges.
In hopes of furthering the investigation, the RCMP have released the names, ages and photos of the individuals, all of which are known to Kamloops officers for their participation in the local drug trade scene.
Nathan Anthony Townsend (23), Jayden Michael Eustache (24), Darian Fredrick Rohel (44), John Wade Daviss (38) and Sean Gavril Scurt (46) were arrested on Oct. 18 through 19 and all remain in custody.
“While our investigative teams are very skilled at obtaining cooperation and evidence needed to advance these types of cases, even long standing participants in the local drug trade found Troy’s death be grossly unnecessary and many people were more willing to cooperate because of this,” said S/Sgt. Simon Pillay.
Early on in the search, Gold was characterized as a high risk missing person because of his affiliation with organized crime. As the investigation progressed and new information was received, criminality in his death was confirmed.
The Kamloops SCU took control of the investigation and one week after he was reported missing it was determined that Gold had been murdered. Investigators believe that he was targeted.
“It was with the cooperation of several important witnesses, traditional and non-traditional investigative techniques, support from other teams, units and agencies and endless determination that we have brought this case to this stage," added Pillay.
"I hope this serves as a lesson to drug traffickers in our community that violence, regardless of whom it occurs to, will not be tolerated and the Kamloops RCMP remain committed to holding those responsible accountable.”
