A wild scene in the washroom of a BC highschool has resulted in a 14-year-old girl being convicted of assault with a weapon and assault causing bodily harm.
The weapon in question was a boiling cup of ramen noodles the student was eating when a rival student entered the same washroom.
According to the provincial court ruling, the two students had been in a longstanding feud that including years of harsh cyberbullying.
"The offending students published comments (on various social media platforms) intended to denigrate, intimidate, or humiliate their nemesis," Judge Doulis said.
The girls traded verbal insults while in the washroom, which led one student to begin recording the exchange via SnapChat on her phone.
That’s when the assailant threw her scolding hot cup of noodles on her rival, causing second and third degree burns on her chest that required hospitlization.
The court never debated whether the student threw the boiling soup or the injuries they caused, however, whether soup can be considered a weapon underwent a lengthy debate.
The judge eventually concluded that because the hot noodles were thrown on purpose and not as an act of self defense, they should be be considered a weapon.
Despite the conviction, the 14-year-old has yet to be sentenced.
