A recent road check along Hwy 1 in the Boston Bar area saw conservation officers check hundreds of hunters and anglers.
The BC Conservation Officer Service joined forces with Fisheries and Oceans Canada, the BC RCMP and the federal government’s Environment and Climate Change division to perform the check.
In total, 428 hunters and 33 anglers were checked throughout the day, which included eight black bears, 38 mule deer, three whitetail deer, 19 moose, three elk, four ducks and a number of fish and upland game birds.
One of the mule deer was seized, along with 19 grouse.
The BCCOS ended up issuing 21 violation tickets and 28 warnings during the enforcement.
The tickets were for a range of violations, including having a loaded firearm in a vehicle, possessing a carcass without parts attached and unlawful possession of dead wildlife or parts.
With hunting season upon us, the BCCOS has been ramping up enforcement with road checks like this one.
Other similar checkpoints in northern BC, Greenwood and the Revelstoke area have all produced multiple tickets and seized animals throughout October.
