With another long weekend on the horizon, it’s sure to be busy at BC Ferries terminals.

As a result, BC Ferries has added 93 extra sailings for the weekend, with most coming on the route between Vancouver (Tsawwassen) and Victoria (Swartz Bay).

In total, there will be 74 extra sailings on that route, including 6 am departures from Swartz Bay to Tsawwassen on Oct. 11, 12, 14 and 15.

The route between West Vancouver (Horseshoe Bay) and Nanaimo (Departure Bay) will see an extra 13 sailings, while six sailings have been added between Horseshoe Bay and the Sunshine Coast (Langdale).

According to BC Ferries, the most popular travel times for people heading to Vancouver Island are Thursday and Friday afternoon, along with Saturday morning.

Heading back to the Lower Mainland, Thanksgiving Monday is historically the busiest travel day.

“The Thanksgiving long weekend is typically the most popular travel weekend of the year for walk-on passengers,” adds the media release from BC Ferries.

“At peak times, some sailings may reach passenger capacity and some walk-on customers may experience a sailing wait.”

Travellers are urged to reserve in advance, arrive early and be prepared for sailing waits if they’re taking the ferry this weekend.
