The BC Search and Rescue Association is grieving the loss of one of their team members this morning.
The North Shore Rescue announced with great sadness the passing of team member Jay Piggot after his prolonged battle with cancer ended in the hospital this morning.
“In these heartbreaking circumstances we wish our deepest condolences to his loving wife Denise, and his two boys, Jake and Max,” the NSR wrote on their official Facebook page.
Two years ago, Piggot was diagnosed with Cholangiocarcinoma, and the NSR team says he “mounted a monumental fight” against the cancer.
Piggot was a full-time BC Ambulance Service paramedic and was also selected for the elite NSR helicopter flight rescue team.
“His commitment to the team and his career saw him continuing to save lives, even while fighting for his own. He truly embodied the SAR motto, ‘That Others May Live’,” writes the NSR.
“The world lost another hero today. Jay will be greatly missed by all of us.”
