A new aviation technology company out of Vancouver is looking to make it easier for people to take to the skies in a variety of ways.
Airble Aviation Inc. launched its online marketplace for charter flights, air tours and empty legs last summer and continues to add more partners to the fold.
Much like Airbnb or VRBO, the company is essentially the middleman that aims to make it easier for people to book these types of aviation experiences.
Airble CEO Saeed Golzar, an experienced pilot himself, came up with the idea when he was looking for ways to explore more of British Columbia and found no easy ways to get flights to remote locations or a centralized spot to book tours.
As he began his journey to create the platform, he realized that it could be a game changer for local tourism and small family-owned businesses that own and operate aircraft.
“While talking to smaller air operators, we heard that in general, there is a lack of technology to facilitate their business,” Golzar explained.
“There are actually hundreds of airlines in Canada, but people only think of Air Canada, WestJet, etc. Our job is to let the community know there are so many operators who can access smaller airports closer to you.”
While Airble certainly makes it easier to book these kinds of flights or tours, it doesn’t mean these typically pricey experiences come cheap.
Those prices are set by the operators and are out of Airble’s control, but the app does make it slightly cheaper by connecting people directly to operators and cutting out the middleman.
It also makes it easier to find empty leg deals, which is when an aircraft is scheduled to return to its home base without passengers, so those seats can be offered up at a reduced price.
