With the summer weather already upon us, plenty of car enthusiasts have brought their sports cars or collector vehicles out of storage to enjoy over the coming months.
That includes the driver of a 1931 Ford who got more than they bargained for due to the extensive modifications on their nearly-100-year-old vehicle.
They were stopped by the BC Highway Patrol on Ruggles Street in Prince George on May 31 and issued both a ticket and inspection order for the antique vehicle.

“Upon performing a roadside inspection, it was noted the vehicle did not comply with the BC Motor Vehicle Act Regulations (MVAR) and did not meet the parameters of an exemption under the MVAR,” explained Cpl. Serge Bruneau.
Bruneau did not specify what the extensive modifications were, but the BCHP did take the opportunity to remind the public that all vehicle modifications must meet the requirements of the MVAR.
“Some modifications to a vehicle increase the risk of altering or negating safety mechanisms, operation or overall handling of a vehicle,” the BCHP added. “This may lead to an increased risk to the occupants, other motorists, pedestrians or cyclists on the roads.”
The BCHP also noted that those who believe their vehicle falls under an exemption should ensure that they are properly familiar with the requirements of that exemption.
