More help is officially coming to Ukrainians who have been displaced and are travelling to BC for sanctuary.
According to the government of BC, in order to make sure Ukrainians have everything they need when coming to Canada, the Province is updating support.
This includes installing a phone line, which will be available with translation services in Ukrainian, Russian and 140 other languages. This line will run from 7:30 am to 5 pm every day.
Its two main purposes include helping the newcomers find their families, employment, health care, housing and education, as well as coordinating volunteers and donations from those in BC.
"Ukrainian community organizations in major urban centres and regional hubs have indicated they are overwhelmed by the generosity of British Columbians and need help managing calls and offers of support," wrote the province. "This phone number will help assist with these pressures."
The arriving Ukrainians will be allowed to stay in Canada as temporary residents for up to three years. They will be allowed to apply for three-year open work permits.
Those looking to dial the number can do so at 1-800-663-7867.
