A Surrey, B.C. man now faces a lengthy hunting ban along with a large fine for shooting a moose out of season and leaving it to suffer.
The man, who has not been named, shot the bull moose in the Beaverdell area on Nov. 2, 2017, leaving the moose alive but partially paralyzed.
According to B.C. Conservation Officer Service, the out-of-season shooting was reported 27 hours later but the animal had died when conservation officers finally discovered it.
Evidence at the scene indicated the moose had “struggled extensively and suffered prior to its death” said officers.
The man has since received a three year ban from hunting and a $10,000 fine, $8,500 of which will go to the Habitat Conservation Trust Foundation.
