It looks like a $7-million jackpot won’t change much about Vita Halasan.

The Surrey resident is British Columbia’s latest lottery winner, matching all six numbers on his ticket from the April 27, 2019 draw to win the large sum of money.

Halasan, who just recently turned 58, said he remembers scanning the ticket and seeing all the numbers, but had to hold the ticket right up to his face due to his blurry vision.

He then called his daughter in a panic to share the news.

“He sat me down at the table and then he whispered really quietly to me that he won $7 million dollars. I didn’t believe him. We had to check online several times,” his daughter explained.

The big win means Halasan can pursue what’s on top of his bucket list, but he says he has no plans to quit his job as a janitor.

He does, however, plan on scaling back his hours.

With three kids and four grandchildren, he says he’ll give his family the life they’ve been dreaming of since moving to Canada from the Philippines 10 years ago.

“I buy lottery tickets so I can dream,” Halasan says. “I dream of being able to take care of my kids and make their future better. Now we’ll be able to buy a nice house for my children and grandchildren.”
