Meneo Asperin was thrilled when he found that his BC/49 ticket had won him $75 in June.

The only problem is that the winning ticket wasn’t worth just $75, it netted him a much larger payout.

It turns out what the Maple Ridge resident saw as a decimal was actually a comma and Asperin had actually won $75,000.

“At first, I thought I had only won $75.00 and that made my day. I felt a rush of emotions,” he explained. “When I realized there was a comma, I had to do a double-take and realized I had won $75,000!”

It’s the kind of pleasant surprise that anyone would love to get, but he decided to use the opportunity to surprise his daughter with a little prank as well.

Knowing full well what the ticket was worth, Asperin gave it to his daughter to check pretending that he still hadn’t looked yet.

“I asked her to scan the ticket on her phone and as soon as the ticket showed a winner, she couldn’t believe it,” he said.

Asperin purchased the winning ticket at the Golden Ears Shell on Dewdney Trunk Road and, like he usually does, used a set of numbers based on family birthdays and ages.

He plans to use his winnings to surprise those family members with a few gifts.
