A man was seriously injured on Friday after he allegedly pointed a gun at an RCMP officer in Chilliwack.

According to police, just before 9 am, officers responded to reports of a found firearm at a cemetery near Wellington Avenue and Ashwell Road. Upon arrival, a female officer was face-to-face with a man pointing the gun at her and threatening to shoot.

The suspect then fled the scene on foot to a nearby residence on Landing Drive.

During this time, the Lower Mainland Integrated Police Dog Service and Emergency Respond Team were called in to investigate and help with the arrest. Officers surrounded the residence, which eventually led to the man getting caught with help from a police dog.

Following the incident, the man was transported to the hospital with injuries that were deemed "serious."

Officers continue to investigate the threats and firearms allegations. Since the suspect was injured, the Independent Investigation Officer of BC has been called in to determine if police actions led to him being hurt.

No further information will be released at this time.
