A BC teacher is in hot water following a string of incidents during the 2017-18 school year.

The BC Commissioner For Teacher Regulation announced on Tuesday that Klaus Hardy Breslauer, a grade 9, 10, and 11 educator in the Vancouver School District, would be suspended three days for problematic behaviour in the classroom.

During the school year, Commissioner Howard Kushner reported that Breslauer had been negative, aggressive, and visibly frustrated in interactions with his students. He frequently discussed his personal life during class time, which included making comments about his family, previous job as a bouncer, gambling, travels, paranormal activity, and his sex life.

In one instance, Breslauer posted a photo of himself and his wife on a publicly accessible Facebook page, where they both appeared to be naked behind a newspaper. When asked, students had reported seeing the photo.

Approximately 700 memes were stored onto the teacher's school-issued computer. Some of the memes, which he shared with the students, were homophobic, transphobic, sexist, and racist.

Specifically, Breslauer told a grade 10 student, who he believed cheated on a test, that he "deserved to encounter a cheater and get a sexually transmitted disease." He also asked a student of Japanese descent if they failed to answer a question right because "they were watching too much hentai."

The Commissioner determined that Breslauer's behaviour created a negative learning environment in the classroom. He went on to say that the teacher failed to model appropriate behaviour expected of an educator.
