British Columbia’s latest major lottery winner thought her win was about 33 times less than it was when she first realized her good fortune.

“I was in shock...at first I thought it was only $15,000 and then after a while I realized I won $500,000,” recalled You Huan Liao.

The Vancouver woman was at home when she discovered she matched four of four numbers to win the top Extra prize in the Sept. 14 Lotto Max draw.

Her win was much larger than $15,000, which would be quite the win in itself, as she actually took home a life-changing $500,000.

Liao was most excited to share the news with a good friend of hers, who she said was really happy for her.

“We are going to have dinner to celebrate,” she said.

A celebration dinner was an easy decision, but what to do with the rest of her massive win hasn’t been so easy so far.

“I don’t have anything on my bucket list but I am grateful,” she explained. “I am still thinking about what I am going to do with the winnings.”

Asked about how her unexpected windfall makes her feel, Liao said: “Happy! I never thought I would win and am still in shock.”
