If you want to bust out the skis or snowboard, but you’re on a tight budget this year, you may want to consider a trip to the Kootenays.
HomeToGo has released its 2018 Ski Price Index, a data-driven piece that ranks the 50 best ski resorts in North America based on affordability.
When it comes to the 2018-19 ski season, a B.C. resort has claimed top spot on the list.
Fernie Alpine Resort beat out Lake Louise Ski Resort in Alberta, Afton Alps in Minnesota and Mission Ridge Ski Area in Washington by a matter of cents to be ranked the most affordable resort.
Another B.C. resort, Panorama Mountain, rounded out the top five.
The rankings take into effect a number of costs, including rentals, lift tickets, lunch and accomodation on the mountain.
Fernie Alpine Resort’s cheap accommodation and lunch is what really set it apart, although its rental and lift ticket were both moderately priced.
B.C. seems to have cheaper lunches than many ski hills in North America, as Silver Star topped that part of the list with a $8.42 lunch bill.
In fact, four of the top five most affordable lunches come from B.C., with Whistler (#2) and Big White (#5) joining Silver Star and Fernie (#4) at the top of the list.
In total, a day on the slopes and nights accommodation at Fernie Alpine Resort should set you back $178.14, around $170 cheaper than Aspen Snowmass, which ranked #50.
