BC has its newest millionaires and they happened to be best friends.

Susan Hook and Martha McCallum of Kamloops were at the BCLC today claiming their $2 million shared prize that came off of a winning BC/49 ticket. The two, who have been best friends for over 50 years, decided to "go in on" a ticket last week when they matched all six winning numbers.

"I was on my coffee break and decided to check the ticket,” said McCallum. “I thought ‘what do all the zeros mean? And I went back to work believe it or not.”

Both women are widows and the life-changing win came on a day that is usually difficult for the two of them.

“I am not a drinker but I said ‘I need a glass of wine,' and we cried together," said Hook. “Yesterday was the anniversary of my husband’s passing and it is quite something to know that we became millionaires on that day. I dread that day every year.”

The two friends plan to still live together with their increased income. They are expected to fulfil lifelong travel dreams and to make their lives “comfortable, but not flashy.”
