Police in Coquitlam had to act quickly when dealing with a shooting on Friday night.

According to RCMP, shortly after 9 pm, officers responded to reports of shots fired in a parking lot located in the 1000 block of Austin Avenue. Upon arrival, police found one man with gunshot wounds.

"BC Emergency Health Services arrived and transported the victim to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries," wrote police. "The victim, known to police, had surgery and is in stable condition."

The victim is expected to make a full recovery from his injuries.

This incident took place in a very public location. Two bystanders were injured from falling debris and were taken to the hospital for an evaluation.

Initial indications have led police to believe that this was a targeted shooting.

"The dedicated investigators from the Coquitlam RCMP Major Crime Unit have taken the lead on this investigation and will be engaged with all our law enforcement partners, especially the members from CFSEU-BC, to identify, apprehend and hold those responsible for this attempted murder to justice," said Inspector Darren Carr.
