BC with over 60 active COVID-19 outbreaks at healthcare facilities

While we saw our first dip in COVID-19 hospitalizations for the first time in weeks yesterday, today we saw another jump in people heading to the emergency. 

COVID-19 hospitalizations have increased by 30 in just 24 hours, and another 11 people have been admitted to the ICU.

Of the active cases, 924 COVID-19 positive individuals are in hospital, with 130 of those individuals in intensive care.

BC is reporting 2,364 new cases of COVID-19 since the last report, which brings the total number of active cases in the province to 33,997. 

Sadly, there have been another nine reported deaths due to the virus in the last day which brings BC’s pandemic death toll to 2,529.

Four of the deaths were reported in Fraser Health, four from Vancouver Coastal, and one in Island Health. 

Another five health care facility outbreaks were declared today, while one was declared over, for a total of 62 active outbreaks. 

The province has now administered 10, 334,333 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine since the program began back in December 2020. 

As of today, 89.4% (4,457,647) of eligible people five and older in BC have received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine and 83.5% (4,162,591) have received a second dose.

From the eligible people 12 and older, 92.5% (4,287,719) have received their first dose of COVID-19 vaccine, 89.8% (4,162,011) received their second dose and 37.8% (1,754,063) have received a third dose.

For all the eligible adults in BC, 92.9% (4,016,590) have received their first dose, 90.3% (3,903,943) received their second dose and 40.5% (1,752,704) have received a third dose.
