Jon James McMurray, a Canadian rapper from Calgary, has passed at the age of 34 after a performing a stunt in the North Okanagan.
According to his management team, the artists fell to his death while rapping on the wing of a plane.
In an official statement, it says that McMurray died on Saturday while filming a project that he had been working on for months that included intensive stunt training.
The team states that McMurray got further onto the wing of the plane which caused the small Cessna to go into a downward spiral that the pilot couldn’t correct.
It says McMurray held onto the wing until it was too late and he didn’t have time to activate the chute. The statement goes on to read that he had combined his passion for making music videos and performing stunts and that he would want to be remembered as a “beacon of light to follow your dreams.”
McMurray is known for his intense stunts and began his professional career as a freeskier in his teenage years. After sustaining several serious injuries including a compression fracture in his neck and a broke back, McMurray began to pursue a career in music.
The rapper was a familiar face among the Okanagan and even performed at Centre of Gravity this year.
