The BC Conservation Officer Service (BC COS) has announced the passing of one of their own.
The BC COS said they are heartbroken to announce that Tristan Montjoy, age 24, has been found dead after going missing while off-duty.
Montjoy was stationed in Fort St. John. He grew up in Lillooet, and was extremely proud of his St’át’imc Nation and Haida Nation heritage.
The BC COS said that he is being brought home to his family today so that he may rest in peace within the traditional territory of his St’át’imc Nation.
“Our deepest thoughts and prayers are with his loved ones, who we are supporting during this difficult time,” said Chief Conservation Officer Doug Forsdick.
“The COS is a family and we are devastated at this tragic loss. Tristan was passionate about protecting our natural resources for future generations and was well-liked and respected by everyone who knew him. He will be forever missed.”
The BC COS did not provide any details on the officer’s cause of death.
“The COS is grateful for all of the messages of support that have been received from our law enforcement partners, community members and more. We ask that you keep the officer’s family in your thoughts.”
