The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) has issued seven evacuation alerts to homes in the Manly Meadows area in the rural Grand Forks region because of potential flooding that could impact road access and low-lying properties.

The RDKB notified an estimated 18 people that they should be prepared to leave the area with very short notice if ordered to evacuate.

Concerns about flooding stem from rainfall on Sunday and the weather forecast for this week, which predicts more rain for the area, says RDKB.

Properties affected include:

Despite the alert, the regional district doesn't expect water levels to exceed the levels in 2017, which caused localized flooding in the area.

"The Regional District of Kootenay Boundary (RDKB) encourages residents to monitor low-lying areas for potential impacts from rising groundwater with some flooding as we move into the weekend," the district said in a statement.

"The High Streamflow Advisory issued by BC River Forecast Centre on May 6 still remains in effect for the Boundary Region including the Kettle River, West Kettle River, Granby River and tributaries."
