First responders find dead body inside car involved in minor collision on Vancouver Island

Police are investigating after first responders found a dead body inside a car that was involved in a minor single vehicle collision near Port Alberni. 

On Jan. 23, 2023 at about 6:30 pm, the Port Alberni RCMP received a report of a minor single vehicle collision on Highway 4 near the Taylor River rest area.

First responders arrived and located the driver, who was uninjured, but also found an adult man dead inside the vehicle. 

Police added that the cause of death is under investigation, and is not believed to be related to the collision.

The BC Coroners Service is also conducting a parallel investigation.

“Police do not believe there is any danger to the public regarding this incident,” investigators said.

Next of kin notifications are in progress.
