BC Transit and several municipal governments across the province are once again offering recent high school graduates a free transit next month.
The program, which has been around since the 1990s, offers Grade 12 students to ride the bus for free, any two days during the month of June.
“The GradPASS program aims to help students consider all transportation options when planning a safe ride home at graduation time,” says a release.
To use a GradPASS, students simply scratch off their two chosen travel days, which do not have to be consecutive. When boarding the bus, they present the card along with a valid student ID to the driver.
The GradPASS cars will be handed out at all participating schools starting in late May.
A few of the participating transit systems include Kelowna, Kamloops, Merritt, Prince George, South-Okanagan Similkameen and Victoria.
Vancouver was the first to introduce the program in 1988 and followed by the Victoria Regional District in 1990. Now more than 70 communities participate in the program, which sees the costs covered by local governments.
