The new Teck Acute Care Centre, located on the campus of the BC Children's Hospital and BC Women's Hospital had its grand opening on Friday.
Premier John Horgan was on-site to officially open the new centre.

"This new centre means better care for thousands of patients and their families from every part of B.C. who access the building," stated Premier Horgan.
In an attempt to make families feel more at home during their stay, each section of the building is modeled after a different region in B.C.
Imitating a starry night, 100 LED lights dazzle the ceiling of the unit where bone marrow extractions and other procedures are performed.

The new centre will provide more privacy for families by the addition of 231 private rooms.
“A perfect example of this is the centre’s neonatal intensive care unit, which is designed to keep new moms together with their babies in the same room, helping to promote bonding and reduce stress," stated Health Minister Adrian Dix.
The centre opens to patients on Sunday, October 29th and will serve all of B.C., as well as the Yukon.

The centre also boasts a larger children's emergency department, more beds and a larger neonatal intensive care unit with single-patient rooms.
Laundry facilities, dining rooms, play areas and lounges have also been added for families.
The eight-floor building is equipped with medical/surgical in-patient units, a high-risk labour and delivery suite, procedural suites and more.
The BC Women's Urgent Care Centre opens simultaneously, providing specialized care for women up to six weeks post-birth.
It expects to see 13,000 patients per year.

“We want to recognize Provincial Health Services Authority and the B.C. government for having built an extraordinary facility that will transform child health care in B.C.," said Don Lindsay, chair of the B.C. Children's Hospital Foundation, and president and CEO of Teck.
Prior to the Teck Acute Care Centre, the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the BC Women's Hospital + Health Centre had about 60 beds and had 1,700 babies stay each year.
Phase three starts in 2018 and will cost $675 million. It includes relocating Sunny Hill Health Centre for Children to the Oak Street Campus and adding 10 single-room maternity-care spaces at the BC Women's Hospital.
