"Did that just happen?"

It's a phrase that was likely muttered by any Millennial/Gen Z viewers tuned into last night's debate over the proportional representation electoral system.

For those that may have missed the small but significant moment, BC NDP leader John Horgan casually dropped some trendy catchphrases in the middle of a heated political debate.

"Young people like the idea of working together," Horgan said.

He quickly followed that with "If you were woke, you'd know that pro rep is lit."

Of course, Twitter had a field day with the subtle references, with a mix of cringeworthy facepalm reactions and "good on you for trying" back slaps.

If all of this flying over your head, here's a breakdown of the terminology:

Woke: Is a slang term that means someone is aware or "awake" to social injustices and issues like systemic racism. Like most things on social media, it also eventually became a thing some people use to crack jokes.

Lit: Is also a slang term that means someone is drunk or high. It's also used to say something is incredible or exciting. I.e. "Barry's new lawnmower is lit. He bought it used but it's good."

On a serious note, B.C. voters have until Nov. 30 to mail in their ballots deciding whether or not the province should change its electoral system.
