Shortly after officers arrived, gunfire was reportedly heard from the residence, prompting police to call in the Emergency Response Team along with a Crisis Negotiator to assist.

The two individuals inside of the residence were safely evacuated, while the distraught man remained inside and negotiations continued.

However, just after 2 pm, an interaction between the man and police resulted in shots being fired by police and resulting in the man's death.

No one else was injured.

The IIO BC is now investigating police actions as it relates to the man’s death.
