A search for a missing child ended in tragedy today.

According to BC RCMP, on Wednesday morning at 7:20 am, officers in Squamish were notified that a 15-year-old boy failed to make it to his home following a night out.

Emergency crews began to search for Richie Stelmack in various areas. At 10:40 am on Saturday, search teams found Stelmack in the Garibaldi Highlands.

Unfortunately, the boy was deceased.

At this point, there is no evidence of foul play in the child's death. The BC Coroners Service is also investigating into how he died.

Search crews, firefighters and RCMP will still be in the area throughout the day and traffic delays are expected. Travellers are urged to stay away from the area.

"Squamish Fire, Squamish RCMP, Squamish and Search and Rescue first send thoughts to the family of Richie our hearts go out to them," said Sgt. Sascha Banks. "We also would like to thank all the support and the assistance from the community of Squamish and surrounding area, along with the media who made sure everything was done to find Richie."

"It has been a very hard and difficult few days and this was not the ending we had hoped for. One thing I know Squamish will do in the coming days and weeks is we will rally around Richie's family, friends, and our community members."

More to come.
