Police have taken one adult into custody after he was alleged to have stabbed a man on a bus in Richmond.

According to police, shortly before 2 pm on Tuesday they received numerous calls regarding an event on the Coast Mountain Bus near No. 3 Road and Cambie Road.

Officers believe a physical altercation broke out on the bus, concluding with a 42-year-old Richmond man being transported to hospital with "critical stab wounds."

Another passenger, a 21-year-old Richmond man, was arrested and remains in police custody.

Police do not believe there are any further suspects outstanding in relation to the stabbing. The Richmond RCMP Serious Crime Unit has taken control of the investigation.

“The Richmond RCMP would like to ask the community especially any of those on board the bus to please contact us if you have not already done so," said Cpl. Dennis Hwang, Richmond RCMP.

"Your information is very important to our investigation. We would ask that any one with any information about this incident to contact Constable Sandra Chan from the Richmond RCMP Serious Crimes Unit at 604-278-1212 and quote file 2019-24041.”
