A drone drug drop was foiled at Abbotsford correctional facility thanks to the “vigilance of staff,” according to Correctional Service Canada (CSC).

The package, which was dropped behind prison walls Dec. 23, contained 59 grams of THC butter and tobacco estimated to be worth more than $26,000.

Even if successful, the tobacco would not have been much good as no smoking has been allowed in all federal correctional institutions since 2008.

According to the news release, staff members spotted the drone hovering late at night and seized the package when it was dropped.

Matsqui Institution is a medium security prison located in Abbotsford, B.C.
