A popular ski resort on Vancouver Island was battered with snow on Sunday.
Mount Washington received more than 100 centimetres of snow in 24 hours between Saturday and Sunday.
On Sunday afternoon, officials closed the mountain due to the heavy snowfall and a high risk of avalanche.
“One of the largest reasons we were not able to open (Sunday) is that we had a few naturally occurring avalanches within the west basin area, which obviously makes the (possibility of) human triggered avalanches quite high,” Sheila from the resort explained.
People were left to dig out their cars, which had disappeared under the metre of snow.
Those who had plans to head up to the hill on Sunday were out of luck as well, as the police shut down the road to the mountain.
Plenty of photos and videos of the crazy snow day were posted to social media, as skiers and snowboarders were trapped in the mess with plenty of time on their hands.
It’s unknown if the resort will reopen on Monday, but no updates have been provided yet.
