The Independent Investigations Office of British Columbia (IIO) is investigating to see if police actions are linked to injuries suffered by two women in Dawson Creek.

The incident happened around 10 pm on Monday, when the Dawson Creek RCMP received a call regarding a potentially impaired driver.

An officer located the suspect vehicle at a gas station in the 700 block of 100B Avenue and tried to conduct a traffic stop, but the driver didn’t stop for police.

A short time later, the RCMP received a report that the same truck had crashed through the wall of the Fitness 4 Life gym on 8th Street.

The truck hit two women inside the gym, both of whom were transported to a local hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The driver, however, fled the scene on foot and was not located by police.

While the RCMP continues to search for the suspect and investigate a number of crimes he allegedly committed, the IIO is conducting its own investigation.

The IIO will determine if police actions with regards to the allegedly impaired driver contributed to the crash that injured the two women.

No further information is being made available at this time.
