Police in Vancouver were shocked this weekend when dealing with a young speeder.

According to Sgt. Mark Christensen, a driver with only a learner's license was caught going twice the speed limit on the Cambie Street Bridge.

The driver, travelling in a Mercedes-Maybach, was going 100 km/h in a 50 km/h zone with their supervisor in the vehicle.

After being pulled over, officers handed the driver a $368 ticket for excessive speeding, which came with a seven-day impoundment. The driver was also given a $109 ticket for failing to have an "L" on their vehicle.

RCMP would like to remind the public to drive safely and responsibly, even when fewer cars are on the road.
