A punk band from the United States in now reportedly involved in an ongoing investigation into a crash in Vancouver this past weekend.

At around 12:30 am on Saturday, 24-year-old Desiree Evancio was walking near the intersection of East Hastings Street and Jackson Avenue when she was hit by a vehicle and dragged for several blocks.

Police have alleged that the driver of the vehicle was intoxicated at the time of the incident. They also noted that the driver was unaware that they had hit someone and that they were trapped under the car.

According to a report from CTV News Vancouver, that night a band called Off With Their Heads had been playing at the SBC Restaurant on East Hastings Street, where the vehicle came to a stop with Evancio’s body underneath.

CTV said that their news cameras had captured a man who appeared to be a member of the band being given a breathalyzer test by a police officer at the scene.

The band has released a statement on their Facebook page that appears to address the incident.

Band member Ryan Young wrote in the post that they have decided to cancel the remainder of a North American tour they were on due to an accident that a band member was involved in..

“We are all waiting for more information to come to light. Until that happens, I don’t feel comfortable carrying on playing live shows,” Young said. “Due to the sensitive nature of an accident a band member was involved with, I can’t elaborate any more than that.”

Young added that when he is able to share more information, he will definitely do so.

In a statement to CTV, Young reiterated that he can’t speak on any of the details due to an ongoing investigation.

A GoFundMe started for Evancio by her sister and a friend states that she will have to undergo many surgeries, including several to reconstruct her face.

The GoFundMe also says that she was hit by an American driver, and as a result they have increased the fundraising goal to $1 million.

“US insurance policies can be as low as $20,000,” they explain. “We are going to investigate and find out what his insurance, if any, covers, but the likelihood is poor that we will receive enough endurance money to cover the many years of rehabilitation Desiree will need.”
