A BC RCMP Traffic Services officer ticketed and towed a pair of motorcyclists who had tied their bikes together and were driving co-dependently through Coombs, BC, on May 5.

"The operator of the lead motorcycle (the ‘gas’) was towing the second motorcycle (the ‘brake’) with a rope!" Cpl. Mike Halskov said in a statement.

According to RCMP, the officer noticed the cartoonish stunt on Highway 4 and turned to stop the two riders, who had attempted to duck off the highway and behind a nearby building.

When the officer had stopped the two motorcycles, which were operating as one, he found that neither rider had a valid drivers licence; neither of the riders owned the motorcycles they were driving; and one of the riders "exhibited signs of impairment."

RCMP issued tickets to both individuals for not having a licence or insurance, and the impaired driver was issued a 24-hour driving prohibition.

"This is a reminder to motorists that officers from BC RCMP Traffic Services are continuing enforcement during the COVID-19 pandemic and they are committed to reducing high risk driving behaviour and keeping our roads safe," Halskov said.

The motorcycles have been seized until ownership of the bikes can be established.
