The human remains discovered in Hope on March 29 have now been identified as those of a Port Moody woman who went missing earlier this year.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team confirmed on Saturday that 48-year-old Trina Hunt’s remains were discovered in the area south of Silver Creek around 10 am on March 29.

Foul play is suspected in the death of Hunt, who was reported missing in mid-January.

“The missing person investigation of Trina Hunt has now transitioned into a case of homicide,” said Sgt. Frank Jang.

“As this is an active and ongoing investigation, there will be no further details provided at this time.”

Hunt’s husband reported her missing when he returned from work on Monday, Jan. 18 and she was not home.

The community jumped into action, coordinating large searches for the missing woman as police scrambled to gather evidence that could explain her disappearance.

On Saturday, a family member released a statement about the discovery of Hunt’s remains, confirming with “shattered hearts” that their search had come to a tragic end.

“We are forever grateful for your love through all of this,” said Stephannie Ibbott, Hunt’s cousin-in-law.

“This community of friends, family and strangers (who now feel like friends) has been there to support us in finding Trina each step of the way.  Your words, thoughts, kindness and outpouring of love are truly what has kept us going these past 3.5 months.”

Ibbott added that the family needs the love and support more than ever right now, but asked for privacy as they seek answers and clarity during this difficult time.
