Both police and conservation officers received some concerned calls about a potential cougar sighting in an upscale Vancouver neighbourhood this morning.
In the end, it turned out to simply be someone’s house pet out for a little stroll.
“A reported cougar sighting in Shaughnessy earlier today turned out to be a Savannah cat, which is a large house pet,” tweeted the Vancouver Police Department.
The BC Conservation Officer Service chose to have a little more fun with their social media post about the incident.
Savannah Cats are not regulated under Controlled Alien Species regulations.

“It wasn’t a cougar, cheetah or 200-pound jaguar,” the BCCOS tweet said. “It was a Savannah cat!”
Fortunately, conservation officers and members of the VPD were able to combine forces and round up the feline.
“We appreciate the public calling in tips so it could be safely reunited with its owner,” the BCCOS added.
