UPDATE: Trailer fire outside of Merritt on Hwy 97C

(UPDATE: 3:00 p.m.) KelownaNow have received a photo where the trailer fire appears to be out. We will update the story as more information becomes available.

A trailer fire has reportedly broken out on Highway 97C, about 6 kms east of Merritt, at the top of Hamilton Hill.

"The fire initially started with the tractor unit in the breaks and spread to the trailer," said Corporal Derek Francis.

"Crews have separated the two pieces so at the moment it's just the trailer burning, there is traffic control in place but the highway is not closed."

According to Francis, forestry crews has been notified are currently on route to the scene.
