Several children suffered a reaction to a mysterious substance at a spray park in British Columbia on Tuesday.
Mounties said they were called to the Mission Leisure Centre at about noon after parents and their kids experienced burning and rashes on their skin.
The “unknown substance” was “on or around” the equipment at the park, police said.
Firefighters and medics were called and treated those affected by the substance, with one person going to hospital.
The park was shut down immediately.
“Everyone at the District of Mission is shocked that a terrible incident involving children could happen at our spray park,” said Mayor Pam Alexis.
“Our thoughts are with the children and families impacted.”
Mounties said they are now investigating in the hopes of determining the nature of the substance.
“The District of Mission conducted a test of the water shortly after the incident was reported,” police added.
“No irregularities were found in the water, including the chlorine levels.”
The park remains closed “until further notice.”
"At this point, we can't confirm what the substance is,” Cpl Nathan Berze said.
“We are currently looking at all avenues including engaging our Integrated Forensic Identification Services to identify the substance and its origin.”
