The search for a slide worth thousands of dollars that was stolen from the playground of a Burnaby elementary school has come to an end.

Police received a tip from the public about the location of the slide, which was stolen from Suncrest Elementary School in September, and focused the investigation on that.

Eventually, a warrant was approved and executed at a residence near the school, where the slide was found.

Unfortunately, the slide had been damaged and will not be suitable for use at the school’s playground going forward.

“We are aware of the impact that this theft had on children and families in our community so the fact that the slide can no longer be used is not the result we wanted,” said Cpl. Mike Kalanj.

The investigation into how the slide came into the homeowner’s possession is ongoing and therefore no charges have been laid at this time.

The Burnaby RCMP originally put out a public appeal for help finding the stolen slide on Sept. 22.

"Who steals a slide? We want to know,” they asked on social media.

The slide was valued at around $5,000.
