Nanaimo bike thieves have stooped to a new low after stealing over 40 bicycles earmarked for local charities.
According to Nanaimo RCMP, the theft occurred sometime over the Thanksgiving weekend from a warehouse in central Nanaimo.
On October 9th, investigators attended the facility to take in the damage of the crime. Investigators found two exterior doors were broken and a chain link fence surrounding the property was cut.
Due to the sheer number of bikes taken, investigators believe multiple people and several trucks were involved.
The bikes were part of the Bikes for Kids initiative which was a partnership between the RCMP, Universal Mortgage Architects as well as the local bike shops.
“This is a significant loss to the program as these bikes were just weeks away from being given to some really cool deserving youths,” said Constable Gary O’Brien.
