Winning the lottery is a rare feat, but it certainly didn’t seem that way on Vancouver Island earlier this month.

The Oct. 5 Lotto Max draw produced three Maxmillions winning tickets that were sold on Vancouver Island.

The three winning tickets were purchased in Victoria, Sidney and Ladysmith, although only the Victoria winner has come forward to claim their prize.

Richard Allen Kraeker bought his ticket at a Thrifty’s location in Victoria and matched all seven numbers to win a $1 million prize.

He’ll split that jackpot with another winning ticket purchased in Quebec, taking home $500,000 for himself.

“I’m gobsmacked! I was just stunned, flabbergasted, speechless for a while and then, emotionally drained for a few hours,” explained Kraeker, who said he and his wife will do some travelling with the money.

“We like golfing holidays. My wife and I both play golf all summer and play sports all winter.”

Kraeker says he’ll keep playing Lotto Max as well, which he’s been playing since it launched in 2009.
