VIDEO: RCMP investigating viral skate-to-face kick during BC beer league game

A melee that happened during a beer league hockey game in Burnaby last week has led to an assault investigation.

The Burnaby RCMP confirmed that its investigating the alleged assault from a game at Scotia Barn, formerly Burnaby 8 Rinks, on Friday, July 29.

Video of the incident, which appears to show one player kicking another player in the face with his skate while the two were on the ice, has been collected by police as evidence.
 

“During the incident, the victim was allegedly kicked by another player, causing injuries that required medical treatment,” the RCMP told NowMedia. 

“Burnaby RCMP is continuing to investigate the circumstances and actions that led to the player’s injuries.” 

Investigators are still in the process of speaking with players and witnesses, the RCMP added.

The incident happened during an Adult Safe Hockey League game and the league released a statement that confirmed the player has been suspended indefinitely.

The statement said: “The conduct and on-ice behaviour depicted in the video in no way aligns with the values of our league and the rules of the game.”
