Shocking footage has surfaced of a Vancouver Police Department (VPD) cruiser hitting a pedestrian in the city’s Downtown Eastside.

The disturbing video shows the man, who is dressed in dark clothing, hunched over in the middle of East Hastings Street around 3:20 am on Tuesday.

A police vehicle heading eastbound then violently barrels into the man with notable force, which left him hospitalized with serious injuries.

The speed limit along that stretch of road is just 30 km/h, but it’s unclear how fast the officer was going at the time.

While it appears as though the cruiser is in excess of that 30 km/h number, those facts will be determined by a police watchdog investigation.

The Independent Investigation Office of British Columbia (IIO) has confirmed that it is looking into the incident.
