It's hard to believe, but Kelowna's rent prices actually decreased to start August.

This month's Canadian Rent Report is an anomaly for the biggest city in B.C.'s Interior.

The new report pegs Kelowna as the 9th most expensive rental market in Canada, down one spot from July.

According to PadMapper, the average price of a one bedroom rental in the city remained the same from July to August and actually decreased by 1.9% for two bedrooms.

The data shows that one bedroom rentals are now going for a median price of $1,160.

Meanwhile, two bedroom rentals are going for a median price of $1,550.

Despite the minimal month over month changes, Kelowna's rental rates for one bedrooms has skyrocketed since this time last year.

The average price of one bedroom rentals is up 9.4% since this time last year, however the average price of a two bedroom rental has actually decreased by 3.1%.

Despite the large increase in the price of one bedroom units, Kelowna remains the cheapest of the four B.C. cities sitting in the top 10.

After being taken over by Toronto, Vancouver is currently the second most expensive city for renters in Canada, with Victoria not far behind in seventh place.

Abbotsford, where the average price of a one bedroom unit is $930, sits at 18th and is the only other city in B.C. to make the list.
