They are stunners.

They are the three eye-catching finalists in the marquee category of 'home of the year' for the 30th annual Okanagan Housing Awards.

Edward West Luxury Homes snagged two of the prestigious finalist spots with the contemporary Sunset at Sarsons home and the more traditional South Beach at Sarsons home, both in the same lakeside neighbourhood in Kelowna's Lower Mission.

The third finalist is Bercum Builders for Cypress Hill Estate, an imposing white hilltop mansion in Coldstream.

The three 'home of the year' finalists are also multi-nominees with finalist nods in other categories, including seven others for Edward West and three others for Bercum.

The most nominated builder is Candel Custom Homes, leading the way with 11 nominations in categories such as 'single-family home builder of the year,' 'excellence for a single-family home worth $1-to-$1.5-million' and 'excellence in kitchen design.'

Edward West is also a finalist in the coveted 'single-family home builder of the year' category along with 3rd Generation Homes.

In all there are 36 categories covering all price ranges of homes, condominiums, townhouses renovations and interiors.

While category finalists are primarily the builder or designer, there are many categories with sub-finalists representing suppliers or partners.

Racking up both primary and secondary finalist nods, including 'supplier of the year,' led Norelco Cabinets to 15 nominations, the most for this year.

"This year's group of finalists are particularly impressive given the challenges brought on by the COVID pandemic," said Daniel Winer, the executive office of the Central Okanagan branch of the Canadian Home Builders' Association, which organizes the awards.

"Between the rising costs of materials, a shortage of local skilled trades workers and climate issues including heat domes and atmospheric rivers, these builders were able to overcome all of these obstacles to complete some breathtaking projects throughout our region."

Winners will be announced Jan. 29 at a gala at the Delta Grand hotel in Kelowna.

Tickets are $229 for members, $299 for non-members, at chbaco.com under the 'Events' tab.
