Correction: A previous version of this article reported that the Historic O'Keefe Ranch was for sale, however, administrators have since clarified that the O'Keefe Range lands are for sale and not the business located north of Vernon on Highway 97.

(Original Story) - An expansive property that was first founded by Vernon's O'Keefe family in 1867 is up for sale.

Spanning 2,310-acres, the O'Keefe range lands has been owned by descendants of the family for over 150 years, but it’s now on the market for the cool price of $28.8-million.

Located above Bella Vista Road, the property stretches north-east to Blue Jay Road and offers panoramic views of Okanagan Lake and the township.

Separate from the popular Historic O'Keefe Ranch site, the range lands includes  20 land titles ranging in size from 1.15 to 164 acres.

According to the listing, about 300 of those acres already designated in Vernon's Official Community Plan for multi and single-family residential homes.

"Founded in 1867, the O’Keefe Ranch was, at one time, a thriving ranch community with a post office, grist mill, blacksmith shop and its own church," states the listing's brochure

"The O’Keefe was one of British Columbia’s earliest and most prominent ranches and it holds a special place in the province’s pioneering and ranching history."

Despite now operating as a separate entity than the range lands, Historic O'Keefe Ranch still holds a connection to the sprawling acrage.

"The family who own the lands for sale are part of the local O'Keefe family and the O'Keefes did indeed own many many acres around this area," said Sherrilee Franks with Historic O'Keefe Ranch.

"So we are technically tied to any land sale in the area in some way."

Like many business across the country, the COVID-19 pandemic has brought financial strain to the Historic O'Keefe Ranch.

So far in 2020, the ranch has had to cancel 35 school trips along with 27 wedding dates due to COVID-19.

Countless stops by tour busses, as well as summer camps and family fun days, were also canceled to ensure the safety of guests and staff at the ranch.

As a result, the business has started a fundraiser dubbed "Help us Fill The Steer" that you can learn more about below.
