UPDATE: Hwy 1 now clear after avalanche on Sunday

(UPDATE: March 30 @ 5:35 am): Hwy 1 is now cleared, Drive BC has confirmed. 

They announced the road's reopening at about 2:40 am. 

(UPDATE: March 29 @ 8:15 pm) - The Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) remains closed in both directions between Revelstoke and Golden.

It closed down earlier today after an avalanche in Glacier National Park, which blocked off the highway.

According to Drive BC, the next update will come at 10:30 pm.

(Original story: March 29 @ 2:15 pm) - The Trans-Canada Highway (Hwy 1) is closed in both directions between Revelstoke and Golden.

The highway closed down around 1 pm because of an avalanche in Glacier National Park.

An assessment is currently in progress and Drive BC anticipates the next available update to come at 4:30 pm.

An avalanche has also closed Hwy 23 north of Revelstoke.
